Pediatrician Dr. Mara Tietzen

I am continually humbled by the opportunity to join the lives of my patients and their families, and am excited to be part of the team at Sea to Sky Pediatrics.  In addition to general Pediatrics, I have a special interest in sports medicine and musculoskeletal medicine. My unique combination of experiences have enabled me to support the health, wellness, and movement of patients across the pediatric age group.

I grew up in Edmonton, AB and was always a child that craved movement and activity.  I have an extensive personal athletic background in dance, figure skating, skiing and track and field activities, and continue to gain increased appreciation for other sports as a self-proclaimed ‘athletic dabbler’. My interest in the human body initially led me to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology, and I gained valuable experience working as an exercise therapist, personal trainer, and movement coach before embarking on my medical education. I have since completed my Doctor of Medicine at the University of Alberta, my Pediatrics Residency through the University of British Columbia at BC Children’s Hospital, and a fellowship in Sports Medicine through Harvard Medical School at Boston Children’s Hospital.

I am currently part of the Pediatrics team at Lions Gate Hospital and a clinical instructor at the University of British Columbia. I look forward to continuing to support the education of our future medical professionals.

Within sports medicine I have experience working with active individuals through childhood and adolescence, as well as with competitive college and professional athletes. I have provided medical coverage for high school football, professional ballet (Boston Ballet), mass participation events (the Boston Marathon), as well as competitive college athletics (including Division I College Hockey).

During non-work hours you can find me happily wrestling my dog Milo, or taking in an outdoor run, bike or adventure.

Fun facts about
Dr. Tietzen

I have been known to relax via headstand. There is nothing else that can so quickly ground me, center me, and bring me back to the present moment. (Do feel free to remind me of this if I look like I need one!)
